Last weekend I went to visit my good friend, Jana, in Los Angeles. I know Jana from my former job in Chicago. Jana grew up in Estonia and met her husband while working in Wisconsin one summer during college. Her and her husband moved from Chicago to LA late last year.
The trip was my first time in LA and I liked the area much more than I figured I would. I thought it was going to be a city of two extremes – crazy rich and very poor. While it was some of that, there was a lot of the middle too. A weekend with a wonderful host, great weather, decent beaches and good food…what more could I ask for really?
Our first order of business after Jana picked me up from LAX on Friday evening was to catch the sunset at Manhattan Beach. We finished the evening with dinner at a cute Italian place in Culver City.
Saturday morning breakfast of quiche and fruit on the balcony.
A day at Santa Monica beach followed by “The Goonies” in Will Rogers State Park.
Breakfast on Sunday was a ham and cheese croissant with fruit from a little French restaurant near Erik and Jana’s apartment. It was the perfect start to the day!
These photos were taken on a hilltop while heading to Beverly Hills. We could see for miles.
The photo below were taken while driving through Beverly Hills. The second photo was taken on Rodeo Drive. The super tall palm trees with the small bunch of leaves on top intrigued us. How and why do they grow outwards like that? Is it natural or was there human intervention involved?
We stopped and walked around Echo Park. There was a really pretty lake with these amazing lily pads.
Korean BBQ – yum!
And then on the way to the airport while we were waiting at a stop light, this happened. We are still not sure how the driver hit us. I don’t think either of us knew what had happened at first. Luckily, no one was hurt (and he has insurance).
So long LA! I will visit again soon!
