Hop into my suitcaseCome along as I travel around the world!

  • One evening earlier this week, I was out walking Stella and I turned the corner to go around the block and saw an older blind woman struggling to find her way to the corner so she could cross the street. She got stuck in some newspaper boxes and wasn’t having any luck navigating around them.⁣
⁣
People kept walking by her, so wrapped up in their phones or music or thoughts they were completely oblivious to her plight.⁣
⁣
I went up to her and asked if I could help. She immediately accepted and instead of just helping her to the corner, I helped her to her destination, which was the local pizza place across the street and down the block for their 1/2 price pizza night.⁣
⁣
I was happy to help her and relieved to know she got to her destination safely.⁣
⁣
This is just a reminder to all of us (myself included) to put the phones down and take the ear buds out sometimes. Pay attention to what’s going on around you so you don’t miss things, both good and bad.⁣
⁣
The world needs all the kindness it can get these days so let’s lead the way! ⁣
⁣
  • I’m told “The Music Man” is very “Iowa-ish.” 😂⁣
⁣
Sounds perfect for me. 🌽
  • The beach or the mountains?⁣
⁣
I’m beach under an umbrella all the way. And I wish I was at this particular beach with a good book and a fruity drink right now. ⁣
⁣
How about you - beach or mountains?
  • Rule #1 when taking touristy photos in front of an iconic landmark:⁣
⁣
Don’t cut off the iconic landmark. 🤦🏼‍♀️⁣
⁣
At least there’s a sliver of the @willistowerchicago in this photo. 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • My family came to visit this weekend and what a great, jam packed weekend we had!⁣
⁣
We played in the playground behind my home, visited the Bean at Millennium Park, let the kids play at Maggie Daley Park, saw the baby beluga whale at the Shedd Aquarium, took a bus ride through the city and spent time swimming at the beach.⁣
⁣
Whew! No wonder I took a three hour nap after they left today. 😖😴🤪⁣

  • “Is this heaven?”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
“No, it’s Iowa.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We witnessed a beautiful sunset while I was in Iowa last night for our annual shrimp boil.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As is typical for an Iowa dinner in August, most of the food was fresh and local - potatoes 🥔 and cabbage from my SIL, onions from my sister, sweet corn 🌽 from my brother and sausage 🐷 from the @edgewoodlocker. Only the shrimp was not locally sourced. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The company was perfect too. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We finished the night by watching the International Space Station fly over (I had no idea you could do this but apparently my mom checks for it a lot) and playing cards into the wee hours of the morning. ❤️♦️♠️♣️😴⁣⁣

🎥 The Field of Dreams
  • That’s an alligator.⁣
⁣
This video was taken the day after we went boating through that channel and tubing in the lake it was connected to.⁣
⁣
I’m very glad we didn’t fall in when getting into the boat from the dock. 😬🐊
