Before heading back to Frankfurt for our flights home, we stopped in St. Goar and cruised up the Rhine River. We took a high speed train from St. Goar and then caught a Rhine River ferry back to St. Goar. It was a great way to travel and tour the river. The day started out cloudy and foggy but cleared off later on. The vineyards along the river surprised me the most. They were everywhere and were so beautiful. There was a castle along the bank in almost every town.
The vineyards created such a beautiful backdrop for the towns along the river.
We did a quick tour of the castle in St. Goar while we were there. The views from the castle were amazing!
The cannonballs shown in the second photo below were made of stone.
St. Goar is home to the largest free standing cuckoo clock in the world.
